BRICS Embassies’ meet for Football Tournament ahead of Russia World Cup

With only a few days to the kick off to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in partnership with the South African Broadcasting Cooperation (SABC) hosted the BRICS Embassies’ Football Tournament on Friday in Pretoria, South Africa.

Six teams from the 5 BRICS (Brazil, India, Russia, China and South Africa) countries participated in the tournament that is aimed at strengthening friendship and unity between these countries.

The countries’ representative showed appreciation to the Russian Embassy for bringing everyone together.

Russian Ambassador Mikhail Ivanovich Petrakov said: “This tournament is dedicated to two major events, one the World Cup which will be in Moscow, and 11 other cities and the second is the 10th BRICS Summit that will take place in South Africa.”

The ambassador also stated that the countries are trying to strengthen cooperation, not only on the politics front.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) said it was an honour for the South African Football Federation to work with the BRICS embassies in this tournament
