South Africa is set to host the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) and ICT Industry event in Durban from 10 – 13 September. The country’s telecoms and postal minister, Siyabonga Cwele announced the event in the month August. South Africa is the first African country to host the ITU Telecom World conference.
The ITU initiative for the global ICT industry brings together leaders in government and industry to discuss challenges, opportunities and explore future partnerships. The conference will investigate investment opportunities and economic development through ICT.
The 2018 conference will be held under the theme “innovation for a smarter digital development”. The conference to be held at Durban’s Inkosi Albert Luthuli International conventions centre is expected to attract over 7 000 delegates and contribute between R60 million and R80 million to the economy.
