United States sanctions South African man for assisting North Korea acquire oil

The United States Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control office said on Monday that a South African man was sanctioned for helping North Korea acquire oil.

The office said in a statement that the Russia-born Vladlen Amtchentsev was sanctioned for giving council to thwart North Korea’s nuclear ambitions on behalf of Velmur Management Ptc Ltd on how to evade US sanctions.

The US had sanctioned the South African man already for assisting Transatlantic Partners Pte. Ltd. The company was operating in the energy sector in North Korea. The Trump state had also sanctioned both companies for allegedly laundering millions of money, reports Reuters.
